A League Division 1 – Round 8

After a fine result in midweek when they overcame Syddan, Skryne were caught out again on Sunday in a disappointing defeat at home to Na Fianna. The Enfield/Baconstown combination are flying high in the League and after 10 games are only 2 points behind joint leaders Navan O’Mahonys and Summerhill, in 3rd position. By contrast Skryne are lying joint 3rd from bottom of the A League along with Oldcastle whom they meet in vital clash in Skryne on Wednesday. The Blues also face Moynalvey away next Sunday. If you include B League games this amounts to 7 games in 2 weeks – most professional teams complain about a programme as packed as that. So much for player welfare!!

Not too much can be said about the game on Sunday as the concession of two goals in each half meant Skryne had a mountain to climb without scoring one themselves. The situation was made worse by two serious injuries, Niall Morley and Eoghan Greene both ending up in hospital with facial and head injuries respectively. Add in two sendings off therefore finishing with 13 men and their task became almost impossible.

Skryne – Ian Gillett. Mark Harrington, Michael Doherty, David Carroll. Ronan McCabe (0-1), Darragh Campion (0-1), Niall Lenehan. David McGoldrick, Harry Rooney. Niall Morley, Ian Davis (0-1), Paddy Fox (0-1). Colm Doherty, Paddy O’Rourke (0-9), Mark Battersby (0-1).

Subs used – Stephen O’Brien, Eoghan Greene, James Hegarty, Paddy Carpenter, Andrew Moore and Jack Dardis.
