A League Division 2 – Round 2

A superb first half from Skryne was not enough to take both points in this rearranged A League Div 2 match played this evening on a very heavy pitch in Skryne.

Dunderry scored a point with the last kick of the first half and repeated the drama to equalise with the last kick of the second half when the Referee blew the full time whistle before the ball was kicked out. On a bitterly cold wet night which made it difficult to play good football Skryne seemed to have mastered the elements and raced into a six point lead coming up to the break but Dunderry scored that late first half point which proved crucial at the end of the game. With seven different players on the scoresheet in that first half (all six forwards and Lenny from midfield) and the whole team showing a dramatic improvement from last weeks Ratoath match the Blues seemed to have turned the corner so to speak.

Half time score – Skryne 0-9 Dunderry 0-4.

Dunderry upped their performance in the second half and with the help of the crossfield breeze and a slightly fortunate goal midway through this period they set about pegging back the deficit. But with four minutes to go Skryne still held a three point lead. Dunderry added two points but were still behind well into injury time until Skryne gave away a needless 30 metre free and Dunderry said ‘thank you very much’ and slotted over the equaliser and the game was over.

Robbie Clarke in his first adult match for the Blues did really well as did Niall Lenehan and Eoghan Greene in defence. Up front Mark Battersby was as accurate as ever and got great help from Eoin Smyth and Brian Davis.
