B League Division 2 – Round 3

The Skryne pitch was a hive of activity this evening and a clash of fixtures meant that the throw-in for the Skryne vs Dunshaughlin game was delayed by 45 minutes as the Skryne U16s who were scheduled to play at 7pm put O’Mahonys to the sword in what turned out to be an entertaining opener to the B League game.

When things finally got underway, Skryne drew first blood with Jason Fox opening the scoring with a point from play. Dunshaughlin replied straight away with a point of their own. 2 points from Craig Nolan saw similar responses from Dunshaughlin. Allan Carty edged Skryne ahead before Dunshaughlin grabbed their first goal of the game midway through the half to put them 2 points ahead. Sean Cassidy pulled one back for Skryne, but this was cancelled out by Dunshaughlin. Skryne got a brace of points from Allan Carty ad John Morley to level matters at half-time. Half-time score: Skryne 0-07, Dunshaughlin 1-04

The second half started off much in the same vein as the first with Dunshaughlin registering 2 early points while Craig Nolan replied for Skryne with his third of the game. However, Dunshaughlin moved up a gear on the 10th minute when they fired home a well worked goal after a fine passing move. They followed this with four points without a reply from Skryne and in truth they were unlucky not to bag a few more scores during this period as they cut open the Skryne defence on numerous occassions, but some heroic last ditch defending coupled with some wayward shooting ensured that Skryne still harbored a flicker of hope of getting back into this game. Allan Carty reduced the gap to 5 points when he got on the end of a centred ball to palm to the net with 10 minutes remaining. Dunshaughlin didn’t panic and maintained their superiority right until the end adding another point to their tally with a solitary reply from Jason Fox. Final score: Skryne 1-09, Dunshaughlin 2-11.
