Mouthguard and Registration Update

Mouthguards

We have negotiated a discount with Elvery’s and we can supply Boil & Bite type mouthguards for just €5 each. We will have these for sale at registration. Remember all underage players must have mouthguards before either training or playing.

Registration

Registration will take place this year at the clubhouse from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 2nd March, and the following Monday to Friday from 7pm to 8:30pm.

Use of Mouthguards

Most of you will have heard through the media about the new GAA rule regarding mouthguards for underage players. The new rule came into force on 1st January this year, and we are obliged to enforce this ruling. Skryne Underage players of all ages (from U6 to Minor incl.) not wearing mouthguards will not be allowed to either train or play.

You can read all about the new rule, the types of mouthguard available, and a list of frequently asked questions on the GAA website here: http://gaa.ie/medical-and-player-welfare/mouthguards/.

There are a number of boil&byte type mouthguards available through sports shops and chemists, or you can have a custom mouthguard fitted by a dentist. Note that in very young children, new mouthguards will be required every 3-4 months as their teeth develop. So custom fitted mouthguards may be a particularly expensive option for U6/U8 groups, but ultimately the decision is yours.

We are working with some local suppliers to offer discounts on the OPRO boil&byte type mouthguards, and will publish details on our website once this is finalised. We expect to offer these GAA approved mouthguards for around 5 euro. We are also arranging a discount with a dentist for those that would prefer to have custom-made mouthguards for maximum protection. Again we will publish details once arrangements have been finalised.

The Underage section of Skryne GFC held a very successful and enjoyable fundraiser in the form of a Mr & Mrs Competition in Swan’s Lounge on Saturday 27th October. Twelve couples took part, competing to see which couple knew each other best. Our host for the night was Ron Duff. All of the couples scored highly, but only one couple got full marks. Congratulations to Declan and Margaret Moore, who won the top prize of a weekend in Paris with thanks to Dempsey Travel.

We would like to sincerely thank all that attended and supported our fundraising event, our host Ron, and all of our sponsors who contributed so generously with donations and spot prizes.

Skryne GFC Underage are delighted to announce that we will run our Mr & Mrs competition again this year. For those brave enough to enter, there is a fantastic 1st Prize of a Weekend for 2 in Paris up for offer! The competition is less than two weeks away, on Saturday 27th October at 8:30pm in Swans.

Admission tickets are only €10 each and have been sent home for sale with our underage players. Please return payment, or your tickets, to the underage manager. Last year’s event was highly entertaining for all involved, and this year it’s set to be even better!

This is our main fundraiser of the year for the underage section, and your support will be greatly appreciated. If you would like to purchase additional tickets please ask any member of the underage committee. Tickets will also be available through Swans.

Cardiac screening

We are trying to organize a Cardiac screening day in Skryne for Males and Females between 14 and 36 (those under 16 must have parent/guardian consent). This will be open to everyone, particularly those who play any sport in the parish. The cost will be €45 per person and each screening will take approximately 5-7 minutes. You will asked to complete a questionnaire beforehand. For this to go ahead we will need 35 to 40 people for screening on the day.

If you are involved with sports this screening is vital as it could save your life.

The Sam Maguire Cup returns to Skryne

The future of Meath football lies with the underage teams, and on Tuesday 17th April our young players got a sneak preview of what lies ahead when the Sam Maguire Cup visited Skryne. Many of the kids pictured below are already showing huge potential. If they keep going the way they are, this won’t be the last time some of them lift the Sam.

Skryne under 13 boys play their second game of their div one campaign with a home match this friday evening against st.colmcilles at 7.30, their first game was last fri evening against o mahonys where they had a good win,with a score line of skryne 3.16 o mahonys 5.2. our second under 13 team were out against clonard on sat afternoon they also recorded a victory,skryne 3.10 clonard 2.8.
