Community Games in Ashbourne

By Underage PRO Sat 21st Apr

Skryne U10’s entered a team into the community games in Ashbourne on the 21st April. With this being at competitive level and normal GAA rules applied it was very different from the Go Games where you can’t pass the mid point and you are only allowed one bounce and one solo. With the Community games it was like Senior rules where 15 players play 15 and play in positions. Skryne had 10 from the U10’s and we had 8 from U8’s playing. With the cut off date being different in the community games we needed some players from the U8’s to make up a team.

We knew going in that it would be a tough task but the experience was what this was all about. All the players next year are still eligible to play with the U10’s in the community games and I have no doubt that they will do well. Skryne played Kilbride in the first game who were very strong and just proved to be a little quicker off the mark. Alex O Reilly hit the cross bar and we were unfortunate not to score a goal also James Dardis in goals made a tremendous save and kept Skryne in the game. At half time there was only a kick in the game and Skryne could have pulled back to draw level but the age gap between the two teams proved a little too much and Kilbride went on to win the game in the end. Skryne finished strong in the end but it was too little too late.

Skryne played St Colmcilles from Bettystown / Laytown in their second game with St Colmcilles playing with a strong breeze Skryne were up against it and battled hard. With a lot of high balls coming into the Skryne defenders they kept St Colmcilles at bay as much as possible and all Players battled hard and put up a good fight. It is a credit to all who were involved on the day and gave as much as they could. We may not have progressed any further but we definitely had the Skryne fighting spirit. The lads should be proud of themselves and cant wait to see them playing next year. The Skryne team who all played really well are as follows:

James Dardis, Scott Armstrong, Shane O Connor, John O Regan, Killan Cahill, Kian Reddy, Jack Swan, John Finnerty, Nathan Chawk, Alex O Reilly, Sean Mc Carthy, Daniel O Kane, Jack Donnelly, Connor Mc Loughlin, Paddy Wright, Paddy Mc Eniffe, Aaron Clarke, Alex Curran.

Also thanks to the parents who helped out and encouraged the young lads on and we look forward to seeing you all for the community games next year.

From all at Skryne GFC Under-age.
