SKRYNE OVERCOME SENESCHALSTOWN

Seneschalstown 1-11 Skryne 2-13

Feis Cup. Group B – Round 6

Skryne made the short journey to neighbours Seneschalstown for this Feis Cup match and came away with a well deserved five point victory. Although probably already out of contention in this competition Skryne seemed to be much more up for the challenge than their rivals to whom the result was more important.

Both teams were short a number of regulars but that gave a chance to others to stake a claim for inclusion when the serious business of Championship football starts later next month. Certainly some of the Skryne men stepped up to the plate and hopefully can continue to progress which can only be good for the club.

Skryne started the match well and had 3 points on the board through Padraig Finnerty, Conor O’Brien and Mark Battersby before Seneschalstown recorded their first score. O’Brien continued to trouble the Seneschalstown defence and scored a goal and another point before the first water break. At this stage Skryne were well on top and should have been further ahead but for some wayward shooting.
By half time the Blues led by 1-6 to 0-3 and were good value for their lead.

They began the second half the same way as the first and Padraig Finnerty pointed a free straight from the throw-in. Then the score of the game arrived when Conor O’Brien found the net for the second time. A superb move involving Frank Carty, Robbie Clarke and carried on excellently by Darragh Campion who beat three challenges before setting up O’Brien to finish to the corner of the Seneschalstown net.
The Yellow Furze men improved a little after the second water break but the Blues were always in control and finished out the game well to lead by 5 points at the final whistle.

Apart from the men already mentioned Skryne had good performers all over the field especially from Harry Rooney, David Carroll and Kris Kinsella. But overall this was a good team performance and all 18 men who played on this occasion justified their selection and ran out winners on a final scoreline of Seneschalstown 1-11 Skryne 2-13.
