Skryne cruise to victory over Carnaross

Skryne 2-13 Carnaross 1-10

JCFC Group C – Round 1

On what could be described as a ‘hardy’ night in Skryne, the third team kicked off their Championship campaign with an impressive win against Carnaross’ s second string. Both teams fielded a blend of youth and experience.

Carnaross played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half and with their first attack they found the back of the Skryne net. They added a point a minute later before Kevin Reilly converted the first of his three points. Keith Donoghue was next to hit the target for Skryne as he tapped over from the left hand side after a surging run forward. Carnaross scored two on the trot to move further ahead. Dermot Brennan pointed for Skryne before an Allan Carty drive rattled the back of the Carnaross net to level the match. Carnaross responded immediately with two quickfire points to retake the lead. The sides swapped scores for the remainder of the half with Allan Carty(two points) and Martin Mulvany on target for Skryne while Carnaross tagged on three points of their own to leave the half-time score Carnaross 1-08, Skryne 1-06.

Skryne had the benefit of the breeze in the second half and it wasn’t long before they restored parity with Jason Fox and then Martin Mulvany adding to Skryne’s tally. Kevin Reilly fired over a fantastic point to put Skryne ahead for the first time in the game. Allan Carty who was magnificent all evening popped over a brace as Skryne laid siege to the Carnaross goal. Bryan Clarke had barely worked up a sweat after coming on as a substitute when he got on the end of a fine move to fire home a brilliant shot past the Carnaross keeper to get Skryne’s second goal. Skryne were now six points ahead and the game was virtually over as a contest. Kevin Reilly added his third and final point two minutes later. Carnaross did continue to battle and added two points before the end. However, Allan Carty capped a fine performance with Skryne’s last score two minutes from time.
