Inevitable defeat for Skryne

Skryne 0-11 Seneschalstown 1-14

Junior A Football Championship. Group C, Round 3

Skryne succumbed to an inevitable defeat at the hands of Seneschalstown in this Junior Football Championship match played in ideal conditions in Walterstown this evening (Thursday).

As previously reported eight of this Skryne panel played Senior League football less than 24 hours earlier, resulting in three prominent players receiving injuries preventing them from playing tonight’s game. Declan Morley, Dermot Brennan and Colm Craigie all started last nights match and none of the trio were fit to take their place tonight. Five other players played some part in the aforementioned A League match last night and naturally were less than effective in this game.

Totally unfair to amateur players playing Junior football.

Despite all that Skryne began this match well and notched up four points before Seneschalstown got off the mark when gifted a few easy scores by the men in blue. Skryne also missed two or three golden opportunities for goals in this period of domination. As often happens they were made to rue these missed chances and by half time they were behind by 0-7 to 0-6.

Seneschalstown dominated the early exchanges of the second half and added a goal and two points to their half time tally to lead by six points. Despite Skryne’s best efforts this was a lead they deservedly held to the end of the match.

To add to Skryne’s injury list substitute Sean Cassidy was the victim of a bad tackle by the Seneschalstown goalkeeper which went completely unpunished and resulted in yet another player stretchered off to hospital.

James Conroy, Robbie Clarke (before injury also forced him off), Oisin Gryson and John Morley tried their best to stem the Seneschalstown tide in a match they were never destined to win.

Skryne – Felim O’Rourke. James Conroy, Michael Doherty, Timmy Lennon. Robbie Clarke, Oisin Gryson, David Carroll. David McGoldrick, David Lynch. Frank Carty, John Morley (0-3), Darren Fox. Niall Morley (0-3), Allan Carty (0-5), John Quinn.

Subs used – Sean Cassidy, Ciaran Finnerty, Kevin O’Reilly, Andrew Moore and Cian Lynch.
