Skryne Defeat Dunshaughlin in JFC

Skryne 1-17 Dunshaughlin 0-12

Junior A Football Championship. Group C, Round 5

Skryne overcame neighbours Dunshaughlin in this Junior Football Championship played tonight on an excellent Kilbride pitch which is a credit to the Dublin border club.

Although playing against the strong breeze in the first half Skryne began the game well and were soon in a three point lead. They were never headed after this and comfortably led at the halftime break by 1-8 to 0-4 thanks to five points from top scorer Allan Carty, two from Niall Morley and an excellent goal from centre back Declan Morley. The lead could have been much greater had the Dunshaughlin goalkeeper not made two super saves from Sean Cassidy and Frank Carty.

Dunshaughlin improved significantly in the second half but Skryne were hampered by the concession of black and red cards and an injury to midfielder Davy Lynch.

The Blues won this game with a nice blend of youth and experience playing a brand of football which is entertaining and without the total blanket defence. To be fair Dunshaughlin used the same system which made for an exciting game of open football with the Skryne defence on top throughout and conceding only one free in scoring range. While all six defenders were on song special mention must go to youngsters Timmy Lennon and David Carroll who mopped up everything and got great help from another minor Sean Byrne when introduced.

From midfield David McGoldrick used his experience well and added four points to the scoresheet while upfront the forwards combined as a team adding four more points from Carty, one from Robbie Clarke and a brilliant long range point from Ronan McCabe.

So when subs were introduced it did not hinder the overall performance of the team and ensured a victory which improves their chances of making the knockout stages of the Championship.

Sktyne – Felim O’Rourke. Timmy Lennon, Michael Doherty, David Carroll. Dermot Brennan, Declan Morley (1-0), Robbie Clarke (0-1). David Lynch, David McGoldrick (0-4). Frank Carty, Colm Craigie, Niall Morley (0-2). Sean Cassidy, Allan Carty (0-9), Colm McLoughlin.

Subs. – John Quinn, Sean Byrne, Jack Conroy, Ronan McCabe (0-1) and Oisin Coyle.
