With the seniors short so many players the effect snowballed down the line and left the junior side also bereft of some experience. Having said that this team can be immensely proud of their performance against a Meath Hill side with serious championship aspirations. Skryne were forced to line out in unfamiliar white while the opposition were allowed their traditional blue colours. Surely both teams should change if there is a clash in a Championship game.

Like the seniors Skryne had to introduce the under 17s to championship football and in fact four of them featured in this match. How well they performed can be gleaned from the Referees scoreline of 1-13 to 1-11. There was some confusion as to the final score at the end of the game with Meath Hill more concerned whereas Skryne are out of contention as a result of this defeat.

The four under 17s on view were Eoghan Greene in the half back line, Oisin Gryson at midfield, Paddy Carpenter in the half forward line and Darren Fox coming on at half time to play at centre back for the Blues. The way these young lads played bodes well for the future of Skryne football. The mixture of youth and experience in this match worked well and it almost resulted in a shock win for the Blues.

Behind at halftime by 1-6 to 0-5 the Skryne men were convinced the goal for the Hill should have been a free further out the field which would have left the minimum between the teams at the break. Having said that Meath Hill were fully deserving of their victory which keeps their interest going in this competition .

Apart from the youngsters already mentioned Skryne had good performances from Des McAvinney, Brian Smyth, Niall Morley and Cian Lynch who went on to also feature in the following senior match.

Skryne – Des McAvinney. David Harrington, James Looby, Pauric Murphy. Niall Morley (0-1), Dermot Brennan, Eoghan Greene. Oisin Gryson, David McGoldrick. Declan Mulvey, Cian Lynch (0-3), Paddy Carpenter (1-0), Conor Keogh, Brian Smyth (0-3), Felim O’Rourke (0-3).
Subs used – Jamie Jordan, Darren Fox, Timmy Lennon, John Quinn (0-1), Shane McEnroy.
