Match Report – Skryne Under 16’s beaten by strong Na Fianna side

Under 16 Football League Division 1, Round 7

Na Fianna 3-13 Skryne 3-03

Skryne u16s played against a strong Na Fianna team yesterday evening in the spring league. We were beaten by 3-13 to 3-03 in Enfield. Skryne were short several players and were just about able to field a team with the bare fifteen. In a good first half performance we had points from Colm ‘The Long Lad’ Doherty,  Lukie Thorpe, and Dylan ‘The Jinky’ Bissett, and also a great goal from a length of the field move that involved Robbie Clarke, Frankie Carty, Lukie and Colm and was finished to the net by Bryan ‘The Hatcher’ Clarke. We went in at half time down by only 3 points on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-3.

The second half started well  with a brilliant second goal for us by the inspirational Robbie Clarke who lobbed the ball over their advancing keeper. Then things went a little pear shaped with Na Fianna kicking good scores and a couple of bad refereeing decisions. Despite some great goalkeeping from James ‘The Wall’ Keane who produced some outstanding saves, we found ourselves 13 points down with 10 minutes left. Credit to the boys, they never gave up with Liam ‘The Sniper’ Gill getting another goal and two really late saves by the Na Fianna keeper from goal bound shots by Robbie Clarke. Unfortunately, we came up short on the night. Best for the blues were James Keane, Robbie Clarke, Frankie Carty and Cormac O’ Dowd.
