Premier Football Championship. Division 5 – Round 2. Skryne 0-13 St. Pauls 1-07

Skryne 0-13 St. Pauls 1-07

Premier Football Championship. Division 5 – Round 2.

Skryne’s third team produced an excellent performance against St. Paul’s first team in this Premier Division 5 Championship game, played in a heatwave in Skryne. This was one occasion when the water breaks were a necessity rather than a hinderance as very few players had experienced these conditions before.
Having said that both teams coped very well and Skryne in particular served up some good football from the start. The Blues led by 0-9 to 0-3 at half time but should have been much further in front if they had converted a lot more of their many chances.

The same pattern continued in the second half but St. Paul’s came more into the game and could have punished Skryne’s wayward shooting but for some misses themselves. Those missed chances for the Clonee men included a penalty which was well saved by Des McAvinney. But overall Skryne were a better team and their mixture of older experienced players and young speedy players proved to be successful on the day.

Skryne – Des McAvinney. Jack Swan, Barry Clarke, Paddy O’Leary. Colm McLoughlin (0-1), Ronan McCabe, Daniel Fitzpatrick. Oisin Keogh (0-2), Allan Carty (0-2). Sean Cassidy, Felim O’Rourke (0-2), George Fitzpatrick. Martin Mulvaney, Brian Smyth (0-1), Cian Reddy (0-5).
Subs Used – Alan Tuite, Brian Clarke and Michael Swan.
