Exciting draw for third team.

Skryne 2-16 Moynalty 2-16

Premier Football Championship. Division 5, Group B – Round 1.

Skryne and Moynalty played out an exciting high scoring draw in this Premier Division 5 Competition played in Skryne this evening (Monday).

This was Skryne’s third string versus Moynalty’s second team. But as far as entertainment and effort is concerned this was as good as it gets. Both teams gave their ‘all’ and on a beautiful evening for football neither side deserved to lose.

Moynalty had the upperhand in the first half and their all important score, a goal, came 24 minutes into the game and ensured they enjoyed a five point lead at half time. Moynalty 1-10 Skryne 0-8.

The Blues began the second half in whirlwind fashion and Alex Grendon sent a rasper to the back of the Moynalty net in less than a minute. Veterans Martin Mulvaney and Allan Carty added points before Moynalty settled down again and pressed on into a seven point lead which seemed to be enough to gain victory for the North Meath side.

Then the youthful Grendon fisted in his second goal to give Skryne a boost and with time almost up they had turned the seven point deficit into a one point lead. Vital points from Aidan Gill and Thomas McKeown had twice given Skryne the lead but Moynalty fought back each time and got the equalising point from a free well into injury time.

Skryne had great performances all over the field beginning with goalkeeper Gary Browne whose handling under the high ball was flawless. In front of him Thomas McKeown, Ciaran Finnerty and Aidan Gill kept the defence together. Up front Grendon was excellent and got great help from the third veteran on the pitch Felim O’Rourke who chipped in with five points and Sean Keogh who kept the Moynalty defence busy all through.

SKRYNE – Gary Browne. Shane McEnroy, Thomas McKeown (0-1), Aidan Gill (0-1). Michael Doyle, Ciaran Finnerty, Kieran O’Rourke. Allan Carty (0-3), Alex Grendon (2-2). Paul McGoldrick, Felim O’Rourke (0-5), Sean Cassidy. Brian Clarke, Sean Keogh (0-1), Martin Mulvaney (0-3).

Subs – Conor Whelan and Oisin Coyle.
