Skryne Still Without A Win.

Ratoath 1-14 Skryne 0-11

Senior Football Championship. Group C, Round 4

Skryne are still seeking their first win in this years Senior Football Championship after this defeat at the hands of Ratoath in Ashbourne on Sunday night.

Skryne played against the breeze in the first half but were much the better team in this period. Ratoath scored the first point in the first minute but then Skryne went into top gear and spurred on by captain Patrick O’Rourke who scored six points they fully deserved their two point half time lead – 0-9 to 0-7.

Ciaran Lenehan had opened Skryne’s account in the first half and did the same in the second as the Blues seemed to be in charge at this stage of the game.

But, as happened in the last few games, their bubble burst and having led by three points 0-11 to 0-8 they amazingly failed to score for the last 25 minutes of the game. Ratoath scored 1-6 without reply from there to the final whistle and were a little flattered by the final score.
O’Rourke got great help from Bryan Davis and Ciaran Lenehan particularly in that first half. Donie Ryan also was excellent in his sweeper role until he ran out of steam. The defence in general were under pressure due to the speed of the opposing forwards but Eoghan Greene and Robbie Clarke held the fort well. Darragh Campion also had a good game despite being red carded after being ‘goaded’ for forty five minutes and eventually exploded when disgracefully ‘fingered’ by a Ratoath player.

The last game versus our neighbours Dunshaughlin now becomes the most important match of the season with the losers embroiled in a relegation play-off with the bottom teams in the other two sections.

Skryne – Des McAvinney. Robbie Clarke, Eoghan Greene, Declan Morley. Paddy Carpenter, Darragh Campion, Dermot Brennan. Ciaran Lenehan (0-2), Colm Craigie. Eoin Smyth (0-1), Paddy Fox, Bryan Davis (0-2). Donie Ryan, Patrick O’Rourke (0-6), Mark Battersby.

Subs used – Frank Carty and Aidan Tuite.
