Bective 0 – 12

Skryne 0 – 10

Bective narrowly defeated Skryne in the Junior A football championship in Trim on Sunday evening.  Playing with the wind, Bective were first to trouble the score-keeper with a point on 6 minutes. This was cancelled out a minute later by a free from Conor Keogh. Bective posted the next 3 points before Brian Smyth pulled one back for Skryne with 21 minutes gone.  Berctive restored their lead on 24 minutes but Adam O’ Sullivan made a good run from his own half back line to finish with a good point for Skryne one minute later.  Conor Keogh pulled another one back from a placed ball, but with the first period virtually up Bective widened the gap again to three points.  This left the halftime score at 0 – 7 to 0 – 4.

Skryne resumed with the aid of the breeze but it was Bective who pushed on with the next two points.  Stephen O’Brien was introduced into the right hand corner and his speed on the ball made a telling difference. Skryne scored the next five points in a row between the 37th and 48th minute with Mark Harrington, Alan Carty(2), Cian Byrne and Conor Keogh getting on the scoreboard.  However they failed to press home their advantage and Bective scored three late points.  Conor Keogh scored one more for Skryne to leave the final score at Bective 0 – 12, Skryne 0 – 10.

Skryne: I. Gillet, P. McGoldrick, D. Morley, T. Farnan, V. Reilly,  M. Harrington (1), A. O’ Sullivan (1), D. Ryan, G. Geraghty, J. Morley,  C. Byrne (1), C. Keogh (4), A. Carty (2) B. Smyth (1), J. Quinn.   Subs S. O’Brien for Morley.
