Skryne Minors overcome the Hill in a gallant battle in the Div 1 Spring League.

Skryne Minors season started where the U16’s left off from last year when winning the U16’s Div 1 Summer League. Skryne were looking to make amends also when last year they played Summerhill in the Div 1 U16’s Spring League where things didn’t go to plan last year.

The game was fixed for Saturday 9th in Father Mc Manus Park and after Storm Erik had passed there was another one brewing with the two big guns of Skryne & Summerhill. Two clubs steeped in tradition and great footballers throw in was fixed for 12.00pm.

Summerhill started of proceedings with a fine point in. Summerhill was up for this and so was Skryne. Skryne went on the attack and slotted home a goal to counteract Summerhills Point. Summerhill struggled to get the ball past midfield and Skryne registered another Three Points. It was Skryne 1-03 Summerhill 0-1. Summerhill did not come to spectate and raised the game when on 9mins registered their second point. Skryne defensive line of Kristoffer Kinsella, David Rathbourne Scott Armstrong, Sam Hawes & Billy Reilly were outstanding. Yes numbers were tight with Jack Swan out injured and Gary Browne after getting his appendices out. Skryne work rate was fantastic. Skryne registered another point to lengthen the gap but with 17 Mins gone Summerhill as they do stepped it up. The game became free flowing from end to end and Andrew Smith referee had plenty of running to do and let the game flow as much as he could and this is the sign of a very good referee. From 17mins to half time Summerhill registered two more scores with the referee blowing up for halftime. Summerhill would have the aid of a breeze in the second half and there was little in it.

Halftime
Skryne 1-05
Summerhill 0-4

The second half got under way and from the off Summerhill registered two points. Skryne management and players didn’t panic and the lads regrouped. From 4mins of the second half till 12mins Skryne registered Five Points and Summerhill were battling again to close the gap. The Mid Field of Alexx Grendon and Shane Smyth were brilliant with plenty of running. The goal keeper of Alex Curran who is as fit as an outfield player is cool, calm and collective and kept the nets clear of any goals. On 16mins Summerhill would register their next score from a free. Summerhill was on the attack and David Rathbourne intercepted the ball and carried it forward to flick it across to see Skryne register their third goal of the game right on 26mins. Skryne were to register another score in the final minutes and Summerhill with two. The Forwards of Skryne tormented Summerhill and were really on form with the great movement and play of Niall Finnerty, Niall Moreland, Oisin Keogh, John O Regan, Kian Reddy & Sean Keogh. The work rate from all of the Skryne players needs to be complemented. They never gave up and knew they were playing a good Summerhill side and would need to give it everything for 60mins.

Final Score
Skryne 3-10
Summerhill 0-11

Well done to the Players & Management of Alex Curran, Scott Armstrong, Kristoffer Kinsella, Billy Reilly, David Rathbourne, Sam Hawes, Shane Smyth, Alex Grendon, Oisin Keogh, Niall Moreland, John O Regan, Sean Keogh, Kian Reddy, Niall Finnerty, Jack Swan, Gary Browne, James Mangan, John Finnerty.

Management : Declan Smyth, Padraig Finnerty, Tony Morland, Cormac Grendon
