Skryne too strong for Moylagh

By josephobrien Tue 16th Jul

Skryne 5 – 14; Moylagh 1 – 3.

Skryne proved too strong for Moylagh in this B league Div 5 match played in Moylagh on Monday evening.  In fairness the Moylagh side did not field a number of players who will be on duty for their first team later in the week.  None-the-less Skryne, who were also short , played some excellent football on the night and with two of their minors Sean Cassidy and Niall Morley contributing 3 – 11 between them the Tara men always had the upper hand. Points from Cassidy (5) Morley (4) and John Quinn saw them go in 0 -10 to 0 – 2 ahead at the break. Skryne pushed on with another from Morley on 31 minutes but Moylagh then scored their third point on 34 minutes.  On 35 and 37 minutes Brian Smyth and Sean Cassidy added goals to more or less wrap up the match.  However, Moylagh received a boost when they were awarded a penalty which was converted on 44 minutes. However this was immediately cancelled out by a goal from Niall Morley and a minute later Sean Cassidy made the score 4 – 11 to 1 – 3 in favour of Skryne.  Skryne scored three more points from Brian Smyth, Niall Morley and Paddy Doherty before Smith brought proceedings to a close with a further goal to leave the final score Skryne 5 – 14, Moylagh 1 – 3.  Skryne will be very satisfied with this result and were well served by all their players on the night.  David Harrington, Kieran O Rourke and Shane McEnroy in the backs deserve particular mention.  David Ryan commanded midfield and was aided by the return of Paddy Doherty.  It was overall a very good team display.

Syryne: P McGoldrick, K. O’Rourke, D Harrington, A White D McAvinney, S McEnroy, D Ryan, P Doherty(1), S. Cassidy (2-5),  J Quinn, (1), N Morley(1 – 6), M O’Brien, B Smyty(2 – 1), C Booth.

Referee: Brian (Barney) O’Rourke
