Skryne U13’s remain unbeaten

Skryne U13’s played their last match of the round robin game against Trim at Father Mc Manus Park on Saturday 7th. Playing conditions were far from perfect with the match in doubt because of poor weather conditions. We are lucky to have such a fantastic pitch that is well drained.

Skryne played Trim in 2014 with the U12’s and all that separated them was a single point in both the Spring & Summer League Finals. Skryne were looking forward to the match and both sides put on a fantastic game of Gaelic football.

Skryne were first off the mark after four minutes with Niall Finnerty scoring the first point. Skryne were looking really sharp from the throw in. The Skryne defence were really strong and didn’t give Trim a chance at all in the first half. A ball from Sam Hawes to Alex Grendon then onto Niall Finnerty saw Finnerty scoring the second point.  With twelve minutes gone Trim had yet to register a point and a ball from David Rathbourne onto Sean Keogh who gave an exquisite pass to Finnerty to score a goal. Trim didn’t give in and went on to the attack to register their first score after thirteen minutes. The next two scores came from Finnerty and the eldest of the Keoghs, Sean who scored a lovely point from wide in the left hand corner. Trim went on the attack again and with some great defending by Hawes & Gary Browne Trim eventually scored a point after 17 Minutes. From the 19th minute to the 25th minute Finnerty tormented the Trim defence. Niall racked up a score of 2-04 in a short space of time and I’m sure had the Trim management and players were wondering what happened.  Credit has to go to the defenders at half back who gave perfect passes into the forwards to notch up the scores as well. The midfield of Alex Grendon & Shane Smyth kept control of the game in Midfield. Billy Reilly, Oisin Keogh and David Rathbourne were the half back line while Gary Browne and Sam Hawes were in the defense. Half time couldn’t come soon enough for Trim as they were shell shocked after Finnerty gave them a lesson in Gaelic Football.

Half time Score

Skryne 3-05

Trim 0-2

Some changes were made and Jack Swan, Cian Reddy and Scott Armstrong were introduced. Every player and sub was needed to make sure of a win. The ball was thrown in and the height of Grendon gave a lovely ball to Smyth who picked out Moreland who registered the first point of the second half. The defence lines of Skryne were still working hard as Trim came on attack after attack to try and break them down but the lads were strong. Sean Keogh who had one of his best displays scored another fantastic point again. Some say it was the new boots but he was certainly giving a great display of point scoring from play. Trim went on the attack and scored a point from a free from 10 yards out. Keogh won the kick out and sent a high ball in and it took a sudden dip only to nestle in the back of the net. Great play from Reddy to Finnerty allowed him to score another point. It is hard to know what happened whether Skryne slowed down play or Trim upped their game as they scored 1-05 inside seven minutes. A long ball From Oisin Keogh to Finnerty who sent a ball to Jack Swan which he crashed into the back of the net. With 57 minutes coming up and play nearly over Sean Keogh who had a man of the match performance scored the final point. Skryne played the game with fantastic tempo from the goalkeeper to attack. Anything Niall Finnerty did Trim were punished for. Finnerty also had a great game.  Alex Curran in goals was good and his shot stopping is fantastic. Billy Reilly and Mossy were key to keeping the ball and working with the midfielders of Smyth & Grendon. Moreland again with Swan, Reddy and Armstrong were really up for the match.

It really is a team effort with all these lads who can read the game fantastically. Skryne are now in the Semi Finals winning all their matches. There is nothing won yet so the lads really need to stay focused.

Well done lads and roll on the 21st as Skryne play Seneschalstown in Skryne at 3.00pm for the Semi Final.
