Meath Summer league Division 1 Final

Skryne 3-10 Colmcilles 5-8

Skryne U14 just came up short in a trilling match against Colmcilles in the Division 1 Summer League Final on Wednesday evening in Dunganny. Going into this match these sides had already played each other twice this year, with Colmcilles winning comfortably on both occasions. The Skryne lads were fully aware of the big challenge that they faced. Following four straight victories over Seneschalstown, O’Mahonys, St.Pats. and Dunboyne in the group stages the Skryne lads were in a good vein of form going into the match. The match began at a frantic pace with Colmcilles quickly scoring a goal and a point. However the Skryne boys were in no mood to lie down and they replied with Josh Grendon scoring a goal and point from John Finnerty to level matters up. The first half continued to be played at a frantic pace with some excellent scores from both side. Toward the end of the half Skryne scored their 2nd goal of the evening when James Mangan converted a penalty. Along with points from Mark Swan, John Finnerty and Sean Mc Carthy. At the half way stage Colmcilles led by just 2 points. After the break the Skryne lads torn into the Colmcilles boys and quickly notched two points to level things up. Further scores followed before Shane O’Connor grabbed another goal for Skryne and John O Regan and Finnerty added some more well taken points. While Skryne were now plying some excellent football the Colmcilles boys began to rally and gradually played their way back into the game with some scores of their own. Heading into the final few minutes the sides were level and with Colmcilles down to fourteen after one of their players was sent of for striking one of the Skryne lads off the ball, the Skryne lads missed some chances to retain the lead. Following a scramble in the Cilles goalmouth the Colmcilles boys broke down the field to score the decisive goal deep into stoppage time. At the final whistle the Skryne boys had given it their all and while credit is due to the Colmcilles lads who never gave up, the Skryne boys will know that they had come very close to causing a major surprise. The Skryne panel on the night was Luke O’Brien, Matthew Ryan, Jamie Mullan, Ciaran Quinn, Ben Cherry, Cathal Lenehan (C), Cillian Moss, John O’Regan, James Mangan, Mark Swan, John Finnerty, Josh Grendon, Daniel O’Keane, Shane O’Connor, Sean McCarthy, James Reeves, Robert Gallagher, Charlie Swan, Stephen Corry, Andrew Canavan, Darragh O’Dowd.
