Skryne U8s wrap up 2012 activities

The Skryne U8s have wrapped up activities for the year.  The lads had their final session over the October Bank Holiday weekend.  It has been a busy year which began back in the first week of March.  Since then the lads have had weekly training sessions.  The emphasis through the year was on enjoyment, participation and most importantly skills development.  On the playing front they participated in the Meath GAA Blitz Day programme which consisted of 10 separate Blitz Days throughout the season.  In addition the U8s also played in the non-competitive Summerhill Tournament and had a number of practice games with neighbouring clubs.  Newbridge Sarsfields who we hosted last year invited us back down to Kildare for an end of season game.  It was a great day out and it gave the lads an opportunity to play and compete against the current Kildare football champions.  The lads played really well and it is a mark of their ability and potential that they could compete so successfully against such a strong club with a substantially greater playing base.

Great credit is due to the lads for the effort they put in all year.  There was an excellent turnout at each training session and with a panel of 35 players we were able to field up to three teams at each of the blitz days.  Thanks is due to the parents for their support in bringing kids to training and to the games.  We would also like to say a special word of thanks to those who helped out at matches, blitz days and training sessions throughout the season especially Brian Smith, John Quinn, Aidan O’Connor, David McCarthy, Cormac Grendon, Shane Moss, John O’Brien and Patrick Mullan.  Many hands make light work and their help throughout the year is greatly appreciated.

Finally we would like to thank Hugh Mc Nelis for the many photographs he captured throughout the year and his work in posting them online. We have included a selection of pics from 2012 for you to enjoy .
