B League Division 1 – Round 11. Skryne 1-13 St. Peter’s, Dunboyne 2-14

Dunboyne Finish Top of B League Table.

Skryne 1-13 St. Peter’s, Dunboyne 2-14

The last B League match of the season turned out to be a meaningless affair as Dunboyne had already claimed top spot in Division 1 and Skryne unable to finish any higher than 3rd. As the top two teams contest the final, the 3rd position became irrelevant. Nonetheless both teams served up some good football and decent entertainment for the five people who paid in to watch. The game was played on an excellent McManus park pitch in beautiful sunshine this July Saturday evening.

The first half was end to end and even though Dunboyne were ahead on the scoreboard Skryne certainly gave as good as they got in general play. Aidan Tuite open the scoring for the Blues in the 3rd minute but then the Dunboyne full forward line clicked into gear and scored 1-2 in the next 3 minutes. Skryne put some lovely moves together but their finishing didn’t match their excellent approach work. This wayward shooting left Skryne behind at half time on a scoreline of Dunboyne 1-6 Skryne 0-6.

The first twenty minutes of the second half was a complete reversal of the whole first half with Skryne completely on top. In this period the Blues found their shooting boots and turned a 3 point deficit into a 6 point lead and seemed to be on their way to a well deserved victory. But once again Dunboyne rallied and turned the scoreboard on its head. They kicked 1-7 without reply in the final ten minutes to gain the spoils, with the last goal and point coming in the 28th and 29th minute of the half.

Skryne used their full compliment of six substitutes and all 21 players had an input in the game which was used as preparation for the upcoming Junior A and Junior C Championships.
