B League Division 1 – Round 8

Skryne got off to a slow start in this B League Division 1 game on the well appointed Skryne pitch and found themselves 0-6 to 0-1 in arrears with 20 mins on the clock as they struggled with a pacy Ratoath attack throughout the first half. Aidan Tuite was the sole contributor to Skryne’s scoring during this period with a fine point in the fifth minute of the game. Ratoath could have been further ahead but missed some scoreable chances. Skrtyne pulled back two points with late scores from Sean Cassidy and Keith Donoghue reducing the deficit and keeping Skryne in touch. A pointed free from Ratoath in the final minute of the half saw them lead at half-time by 0-07 to 0-03.

Manager David Harrington rallied the troops at half time and also rang the changes introducing Jason Fox and Allan Carty. Jason Fox in particular had a huge impact in the second half with his pace and trickery causing the Ratoath defence all sorts of problems. Neal Burke also found his groove in the second half and chipped in with three points. Skryne were much the better team in this half and quickly set about reducing the deficit with Neal Burke and Jayo Fox pointing within the opening two minutes. Ratoath replied with a point of their own. Tommy Carpenter did well to dig out Skryne’s third point of the half when he chipped over despite close attention from the Ratoath defence. On the ninth minute Allan Carty had a shot on goal brilliantly pushed away by the Ratoath keeper. Felim O’Rourke was next to be introduced as a sub. His pointed free left only a single point between the teams. Aidan Tuite who was doing a brilliant Mickey Newman impression, pointed his second of the game to level matters. Skryne had their tails up at this stage and Darren Fox was next to add his name to the score-sheet putting Skryne ahead for the first time in the game at the midway point of the half . Brother Jayo extended the lead with another excellent point after weaving his way past the Ratoath defence. A Ratoath free brought the gap back to one. Neal Burke (2pts) and Allan Carty added to Skryne’s tally as the game entered the closing stages. Ratoath pushed forward and managed to convert a free to leave a goal between the sides. However Skryne held on for a well deserved victory which lifts them to second in the table. Full-time: Skryne 0-13 Ratoath 0-10.
