Moynalty 0-12 Skryne 3-8

Premier Football Championship. Division 5 – Round 6.

After this exciting victory over Moynalty away, Skryne’s third string are now safely through to the Semi- Final of Premier Division 5, with one game still to be played.

The result of this match revolved around the tale of two penalties – the first one in the 20th minute expertly converted by Felim O’Rourke for Skryne and the second one in the 55th minute for Moynalty brilliantly saved by Skryne’s keeper Gary Browne. Gary who was excellent throughout  made his penalty save at a crucial time in the match as Moynalty had clawed their way back to within a single point of Skryne who were never behind from the start.

The Blues deservedly lead at the break by 2-5 to 0-6 but Moynalty upped their game from the throw-in at the start of the second half. Skryne struggled for scores in this period and it wasn’t until, spurred on by Browne’s penalty save, that they finally put the game to bed. A superb run by Ronan McCabe when he brought the ball from his own half back line all the way to the Moynalty fourteen yard line before releasing to Michael Swan who made no mistake in shooting to the net for a fine goal which went in off the post.

This was a team performance for these lads to be proud of and every one of the twenty performers played their part in this victory.
The Blues thoroughly deserved their win and apart from those already mentioned had great performers in Daniel Fitzpatrick, Paul McGoldrick – in the unusual position of full back – Niall Morley James Looby and Dermot Brennan. But as already stated everyone did their job manfully and can now look forward to a semi-final where they will get the full support of the whole club.
