Premier Football Championship. Division 1, Group B – Round 1.

The second string of both clubs played out a very entertaining match in the new look Premier Championship in Skryne this evening (Sunday).
After a disappointing display by the first team in Navan earlier this victory was badly needed and gives the lads a boost for the next series of games in a fortnights time.

Skryne were on top for most of this match and Niall Morleys goal after twelve minutes ensured the Blues had a deserving six point lead at half time. The goal came after a five man move beginning with Goalkeeper Des McAvinney and ending with the excellent Ronan McCabe beating his man and hitting the post with his shot before Morley slotted home the rebound. The brilliant accuracy of Jason Reddy from placed balls was another important factor as Skryne sowed the seeds of victory from the beginning of the half.
Half Time – Skryne 1-8 Summerhill 0-5.

Skryne began the second half where they left off in the first and McCabe and Colm Doherty had two more points on the board very early on and it seemed the game was over as a contest. But then Summerhill realised they were in a game and decided to up the ante as it were, and it was their turn to play good football. They scored four very good points without reply and were very much back in the game with the score at 1-10 to 0-9 in favour of Skryne.
That was as good as it got for the ‘Hill and a few minutes of indiscipline cost them dearly as a red card and a black card them saw down to 13 men for the last ten minutes of the match. As a result Skryne finished the stronger team and it was the Blues turn to score four unanswered points. They could have added a second goal when firstly Frank Carty’s shot was brilliantly saved by the Summerhill goalkeeper and then a defender somehow got back to clear the follow up effort from substitute Jason Fox off the line.
This was a good team performance from Skryne in which all fifteen who started and the two substitutes used played their part in this victory.
In defence Timmy Lennon, Frank Carty and kris Kinsella stood out. The midfield pairing of Colm Doherty and Mark Harrington gave their forwards enough possession to get the vital scores. As already stated Reddy, McCabe and Morley always had the upperhand and were well supported by Paddy Fox Aidan Tuite and Neal Burke. Final score – Skryne 1-14 Summerhill 0-9.

SKRYNE – Des  McAvinney. Timmy Lennon, David McGoldrick, Barry Clarke. Frank Carty, Michael Doherty, Kris Kinsella. Mark Harrington (0-1), Colm Doherty (0-1). Paddy Fox (0-2), Neal Burke (0-1), Ronan McCabe (0-2). Niall Morley (1-1), Aidan Tuite, Jason Reddy (0-4).
