Superb win for U14 Girls in opening Division 8 League game.

Well done to the Skryne U14 Reserve Team who are jubilant after a fantastic victory over Navan O’Mahonys in Balreask this evening. O’Mahonys were strong favourites to win this game but were not prepared for the gutsy and determined Skryne team that threw everything at them to run out 6 point winners.
O’Mahonys got off to the perfect start scoring 1-03 in the opening minutes without a reply from Skryne. However, Skryne hit 1-02 to drag themselves back into the game, the goal coming from Ellen Hogan. O’Mahonys hit a second goal in response, but Skryne took over for the remainder of the half adding 2-04 without a reply with the goals coming from Ellie Kate McDonnell who got on the end of a free from Ellen Hogan to punch to the net and Grace Hollywood who fired home after a fine run from Roísín Reeves. Half-time score: Navan O’Mahonys 2-03, Skryne 3-06.

The sides swapped scores in the opening minutes of the second half with 2 points each. O’Mahonys had upped the tempo and the Skryne defence had to work hard to keep them out. O’Mahonys managed to plunder a goal which saw them reduce the deficit to just 3 points on a scoreline of 3-08 to 3-05 when the water break paused proceedings.
The girls fought hard to see out this game and bagged another 1-02 in the final quarter to ensure they ran out victorious, the goal coming from Ellen Hogan who was on top scoring form this evening.
Skryne had excellent performances from all the girls in what was a brilliant all round team display.
