Skryne win in blustery Simonstown.

In a match that should have been played last weekend but which was postponed due to medical considerations, Skryne beat Simonstown by 2 – 26 to 1 – 9 in Simonstown on Sunday morning. Despite the blustery conditions some good football was served up by both teams. While Skryne were well led by some older heads like Felim O’Rourk and Martin Mulvany, it was their young Turks like Alex Grendon and Aidan Gill who really showed well for this Div 5 Premier championship game. Grendon scored 2-3 of his sides total and along with the more experienced Kevin Reilly completely dominated midfield. At the first water break the score was 1 – 7 to 0 – 1 in favour of the Tara men. By half time the scores were double at 2 – 14 while Simonstown had tagged on a further two points.

While Simonstown did up their game scoring a goal on 46 minutes, to bring their score to 1 – 6, Skryne had stretched their score to 2 – 20 when the referee called the second water break. The evergreen veteran Martin Mulvany contributing two points in this period.
Skryne threw on all their subs and they all played their part in this victory with young Bryan Clarke scoring 2 points and contributing to three more. In the final quarter Niall Morland, Sean Keogh, David Rathbourne and Jack O’Donnell added a further seven points to complete the scoring at 2 – 27 to 1 – 9 with Rathbourne scoring three of them
