Win for Skryne over Neighbours Walterstown

By josephobrien Sun 30th Mar

Skryne 2 – 10

Walterstown 1 – 9

A penalty on forty minutes when James Looby was pulled down in the Walterstown square was the decisive incident of this game.  In a good performance against their neighbours, Skryne always looked the better outfit throughout this match.  Midfield was dominated by Alan Carty and Donie Ryan and with the backs, particularly Martin Mulvany and Declan Morley, having the better of the exchanges they laid the foundations for a victory in this B League Div. One clash, in Walterstown on Sunday afternoon.

Walterstown were first to trouble the scorekeeper but points from the two Skryne midfielders had the score at two points each with eleven minutes gone.  Felim O’Rourke gave Skryne the lead for the first time on twelve minutes from a free and with sixteen minutes gone a shot for a point came back of the post to O’Rourke who netted for the first goal of the game.  The same player pushed Skryne further ahead with twenty minutes gone.  Neill Burke and Alan Carty scored two more points, but Walterstown replied with two pointed frees to bring the half time score to Skryne 1 – 6, Walterstown 0 – 4.

After the break Walterstown pulled one back  to leave four points between the teams but a superb effort from Vinny Reilly restored Skryne’s advantage with four minutes of the second half gone.   Skryne should have pressed on from this, but a fumbled ball in the Skryne forward line led to a swift movement down the pitch and it ended up in the back of the Skryne net.  Walterstown were now only two points behind and upped their game considerably.  Two more points, one from a free, saw them level the match with thirty nine minutes gone.  However on forty minutes the penalty incident mentioned above occurred and Felim O’Rourke duly dispatched the leather to the back of the Walterstown net.  Walterstown pulled one back on forty seven minutes but two more points from Niall Burke and one from Kevin Mulvany saw Skryne take both points.  Walterstown did manage a further point deep into injury time but it was too little to have any effect on the game.
